On 21 September 2020 an Ambassador for LEGO, Edwin Campbell and his wife visited Hopelands. It was such an experience to meet these LEGO enthusiasts who just ooze LEGO.

The visit was despite the severity of the current Covid 19 lockdown. Since the lockdown was announced in March 2020 by our President, we had to close Hopelands’ Youth Development Centre that we ran on a weekly basis. All was not lost because we could introduce Edwin to our local Magalies River Pre-School children who are slowly but surely returning back to school since the move to Level 1 was announced by our President.

Edwin spent some fun time with the children who were eager to participate, play and learn at the same time. It was such a joy to see the children having educational fun with LEGO.

We were so impacted by the educational properties of LEGO that we donated some to Nooitgedacht Primary School. Their Special needs class headed by Ms Michelle du Plessis reported back with a wonderful letter of gratitude. These children have special needs and each child was given their own tub filled with LEGO and created some amazing LEGO pieces of art.

Hopelands is grateful for the support from LEGO and look forward to some more interaction with them in the future..
